Sawaya Values Award Winner – Interview with Monica Denler – HONESTY 2011
Monica Denler is the Sawaya Values Award winner of August 2011 for Honesty. Through her membership in the Junior League of Denver, Monica joined SafeHouse Denver as a direct service volunteer with our Children's Program about nine years ago and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2005. Monica is deeply committed to SafeHouse Denver's mission . . . helping women, children and youth in reclaiming their right to a life free of domestic violence . . . and is a visible and articulate advocate in the community. As domestic violence is an issue that many people don't even want to acknowledge, Monica has done an outstanding job of raising awareness of its effects on all segments of our community. As Chair of the SafeHouse Denver Gala in 2009 and 2010, Monica faced many challenges in securing sponsorships and selling tables/seats for the event. She never lost hope that the event's budgeted revenue goals would be met. She inspired her volunteer committee to work harder, and successfully secured dozens of in‐kind donations in order to reduce expenses. A highly competitive professional, Monica is driven by the needs of the more than 1,000 women, children and young people that seek SafeHouse Denver services each year. Both our 2009 and 2010 events exceeded budgeted goals and were very successful in attracting new supporters to SafeHouse Denver.
