Social Security Administration Creating the Living Dead
Are you among the living dead? Well, you could be if you are one of the many social security recipients who have been reported dead by the Social Security Administration.
A survey of the Social Security Administration database has shown that nearly 1,200 Americans each month are falsely reported as dead due to clerical errors.
These undead Americans are then added to the Death Master File. While it should be easy to prove that you are truly a “living” American, people on this list have to fight to get off of it. Sometimes these fights drag on for years, causing many Americans to go with out social security disability benefits for a very long time.
While the purpose of the Death Master File is admiral (to stop consumer fraud), it also leads to many headaches. When someone is reported as dead, important information about them is released, including their social security numbers, zip codes and dates of birth. The Death Master File may actually be encouraging fraud as opposed to stopping it.
