Payment Change in Social Security Benefits

February 20, 2012 by The Sawaya Law Firm

Beginning March 1, 2013, all Social Security payments will be made electronically. Social Security beneficiaries across the country including here in Colorado can either get their payments by direct deposit to their bank or credit account or to debit card. This change is due to the US Department of Treasury’s Go Direct program where all federal benefits will be paid electronically by March 1, 2013. For any Social Security recipient who does not choose an electronic payment option will automatically receive to the debit card. For current beneficiaries who receive their benefits electronically, nothing will change. You can find further information about this change in Social Security benefit payments at https://fiscal.treasury.gov/GoDirect/.
