Monica Denler Receives Award for Honesty for Her Work with Denver SafeHouse
If ever there was an honest advocate for women and children, it’s Monica Denler. Monica, who first witnessed domestic violence through the eyes of children when she started volunteering at SafeHouse Denver nine years ago, has a heart for protecting abused and mistreated women and children.
“It is important for us to stand up and honestly talk about domestic violence,” she said, upon receiving the August Sawaya Values Award for honesty. “It is still tolerated in our society and people don’t know the signs or how to prevent it.”
Currently serving on the SafeHouse board of directors, Monica is deeply committed to the organization’s mission of helping women, children and youth reclaim their right to a life free of domestic violence. Co-workers who nominated her for the award say Monica has done an outstanding job of raising awareness in all segments of our community.
Michael Sawaya says, “Monica is a beacon of light for women, children and youth who experience domestic violence. She represents those that ‘walk the walk’ and are not afraid to confront challenges head on.
