In 1987 Brad was an executive in the banking industry and he began wrestling with the idea that there must be something "more significant" that he could be doing. So he began to volunteer with Denver Rescue Mission (DRM), and a few years later he left his job to become a member of the board at the DRM. In 2001 Brad became CEO of the DRM.

Since he became CEO the DRM has: quadrupled its capacity for nightly shelter, developed one of the most successful permanent housing programs in the nation, in 2009 it was recognized by the City of Denver and the Ballpark Neighborhood Association as the "Non-Profit of the Year", and in 2010 the Colorado Rockies honored DRM through the State Farm Good Neighbor Award.

Brad also served on the Board of Trustees of Bonfils Blood Center for 12 years, and is currently the Vice Chairman on both the Board of City Mission World Association and Association of Gospel Rescue Missions. Brad is characterized as being the type of CEO to roll up his sleeves and help support his staff, he can be seen serving soup, cleaning bathrooms or any other job that needs to be done.

As part of the Sawaya Values Award, Sawaya Law Firm is making a $250 donation to the Denver Rescue Mission in Brad Mueli's name.
