Sawaya Values August Award for Honesty: Monica Denler

It is important for us to stand up and honestly talk about domestic violence

DENVER - Monica Denler remembers first seeing domestic violence through the eyes of the children when she started volunteering at the SafeHouse Denver children's program nine years ago. Since then she has added to her volunteer efforts in the development area, chairing the 2009 and 2010 Gala and now serves as the SafeHouse Denver Board Chair.

"Monica is deeply committed to SafeHouse Denver's mission...helping women, children and youth in reclaiming their right to a life free of domestic violence," said Valerie Chilewski Chief Development Officer and Victoria McVicker, CEO of Denver SafeHouse who both wrote Denler's nomination.

"It's that you are able to honestly talk about an issue that people don't want to talk about. You stand up and take a stand against domestic violence. It is still tolerated in our society and people don't know the signs or how to prevent it," says Denler, who is President/CEO of InTANDEM Human Resources, LLC.
